AER1 Alternative Energy Resources
Alternative Energy Resource 1 ..... We want you to get envolved! Learn about the many new forms of Alternative Engergies on the horizon. Use or implament these technologies when possible. We can help you maxamize your contribution and self reliance. Solar Energy , Wind Energy , Tidal Energy , Nuclear Energy Hydroelectric Energy, are all ways for us to increase the longevity of our planet and become self sustainable.
Wind energy is ready to take off. Soon many forms of harnessing wind power will be more available and affordable to the public. From global, regional and local applications the technology will grow at leaps and bounds. Much like the internet. And in fact the internet will be the drive media that makes the public more aware then educated.
Solar panels are a collection of solar or photovoltaic cells. These photovoltaic cells harvest sunlight and convert the solar energy into electrical energy. Solar cells are positioned into grid-like pattern on the face of solar panel. Photovoltaic cells collect sunlight during day and this light energy can be stored and used as electrical energy. Photovoltaics are made up of semiconductors which have the property to transform sunlight into electricity. Many materials have semiconductor property but the most widely used material is silicon. Though silicon in itself resists electric current but this property can be altered by combining small amounts of other materials that make it receptive to positive or negative electrical charge.
Now we have battery technology capable cars or hybrid cars with much greater milage and horsepower performances. This is a must for the idea to take hold with the public consumer. Hybrid cars reduce your gas consumption and air pollution but have had a history of very little in performance to offer the power driver. . If you are using battery operated cars, you will have to PLAN and recharge the batteries. Until a universal system is in place, like propain tank exchanges at the mini mart, will allow for cross country or long range travel by swaping out battery cells as you travel along.
Kinetic Power
Kinetic Power is a new form of alternative energy which is also an example of distributed generation. Kinetic Power can be used in our high ways. The system uses a series of hydraulic pistons to absorb the kinetic energy from the motion of traffic and transform it into hydraulic pressure. This pressure powers a hydro-generator unit which produces electricity.
Tidal Power
Flowing waters in the rivers and tidal waves can be a good source of alternative energy. With 70% of the earth's surface covered with water, a great amount of energy can be produced by placing turbines at strategic locations under strong currents. This method of generating electric power is called hydrokinetic power generation.
Pplans are under way to install hundreds of submerged turbines inside the Niagara river. This will generate engery simply by the flow of water.
